Day to Day in Addis Ababa

Fixing Power Lines.....Looks safe to me....(not)

Wood Scaffolding and lots of it! This building is projected to be finished 2013.....Must be going by the Ethiopian Calendar :) So 2020 by our calendar should see this complete!

Canadian Embassy Building for Human Rights

This building has elevators! and some actual metal scaffolding

These are what many of the homes here are like, and why I try not to feel sorry for myself when we have no power, water, or internet!

This smart girl made a break for it and was "hoofing" it away from her herdsman! She was only AWOL a short time though before they got her going back with the rest of the herd. Sound familiar Jayme and Laura?!

There is a flour factory on our street and this is how they transport the flour to the markets in town

  1. Hello to our dear Kipp family, it sounds like you are settling nicely into life in Ethiopia. Thanks for the great blog and peek into your experiences there. It is so nice that you are not alone but have some there to have fellowship with, that will make you feel 'at home' more quickly. The one thing you will not be missing here in Alberta is the change in weather, I am sitting huddled by the heater as I write this bc it has turned cold here, time to pull out the winter garb I guess! Thinking of you often.

  2. Hi Jenn, Warren and Cameron!! 3 weeks have gone by fast! What a cultural shock!! We are having very intermittent internet connection (curse! *#%!!) so haven't always been able to see your posts but certainly look forward to your updates!! I wouldn't do well with the "meat" choosing!!! Would be cooking a lot of soup!!! It is sad that people have to live in such squalor......and no hope of help. Pretty awful! We have begun dragging in our plants that we want to save over winter. (4 months outside and 8 months inside!) Something wrong with that! Frost predictions for tonight and
tomorrow night. (Will cover the big pots tonight as we don't have the energy to bring them in) We like to think of you on an extended holiday and hope that maybe you will come back sooner than later!!! I know....that is not your intention but it makes us feel better!!! LOVE YOU LOTS!!!! Auntie Mary and Uncle Norm

  3. I just love your blog and seeing all the pictures. You just realize how spoiled rotten we are here. We'd all do well to appreciate what we have a little more. Keep up the updating, so neat for us all to have a little window into Ethiopia!
